Luckily she had her green card with her when her ship crashed in at tree at 18th st Art Complex in Santa Monica! (1639 18th st). You can see her & her ship along with a lot of other yarn bombs this sat. 18th, 6-10

2010 Governor's Historic Preservation Award Winner for Chicken Boy!
Amy Inouye owner of Future Studio Gallery won the award for her many years' effort in preserving the statue Chicken Boy that now resides on top of the gallery.

To commemorate her award we are doing a show "Soft" of artist's stuffed animals & other small objects for temporarily low prices. Artist's works and Chicken Boy memorabilia can be taken home Sat night.

The show Purrrr at Stray Cat Cafe is nice - some really good work & bargains! The opening was a fun one. My cat "Eat Art Soup" is kind of hiding in the bushes but I think that it might be sold! - I like that my cat is by Stu Rapeport's pink cat - its tail is pointing up to mine. I do have other "Eat Art Friendies" available.

The downtown artwalk scene was mobbed & too crowded/noisy but great in its way. Nice to see peoople thronging the streets of LA at night!

Wing AD (After Damage!)

The openings for both shows went really well & were a lot of fun! - my workshop ar Future Studio Gallery also - people were SO CREATIVE! Last fri night after the bars closed the wing was damaged so we kind of folded it so it wouldn't obstruct the sidewalk but I don't think that it will be up much longer. The top actually looks a lot more as I intended before I decided to secrre it all along the top to make it harded ro vandalize - lot of good that did! It was stretched down to the sidewalk & has a hole. It actually lasted longer than I thought it might!

The openings at Future Studio Gallery & Ave 50 Gallery were crowded & a lot of fun! The Yarn Bombing works along the street were especially wonderful! Wing in progress for Future Studio yarn bombing show Oct.9th - 31st. A bunch of fiber artists will be adorning the outside area near the front of the gallery with crocketed, knitted, etc. art. Since Chicken Boy has arms, I am giving him a crocheted clear mylar chicken wing/ cloud for the front of the gallery.

The foam layer is too porous for the next. I am losing time covering it with bridal netting to refine texture for painting! She is called Celeste. More like a big pull toy than an elephant replication. She is the dream of an elephant creating the sea through her trunk.

I am working with the concept of Akashic Records and making a visual pun with porcelain "phonograph records" as a means to introduce text into my work and to give all thought and phenomena equal weight. Here is an in progress pic of the School Budget Money Arcade for Sandra Tsing Loh's Rally in Sacramento next tue. June 23
It has Rube Goldberg parts with golf balls dropping through one tube to another, parts spinning, $100 bill bean bags to throw into the clown's mouth & $100 bills seeming to pour out through a funnel, other cool things to do & play with - all pointing up the ineffeciency of school funding. People will be able to add parts in Sacramento at the Rally.

You Can't Ignore the Elephant in the Room - "ARTIE"

My elephant sculpture "Artie" holding a big artist's brush is made from mostly recycled materials & with a lot of help,it was covered with double stick tape so people can add recycled decorations to it. It is available to perform & receive a new coat of recyclables at parties, events & functions.

In the new year I seem to have renewed energy for some old forms. The diver that I have used for years is re-surfacing. Here are a couple of past diver pieces. I guess it is the time and tide thing that is bringing them back - if they ever left, the pendulums never did.

I am working on this piece that is a smaller wall hung adaptation of a large free standing sculpture that was conceived first but has not yet been built. It plays between 2 & 3 D as does a lot of my work. It also has references to time as a lot of the other work.

It is still in progress.

In case you are on Overland and Venice in Culver City at night - notice my sculpture (Will, Perseverance, Vision) on Bally Total Fitness. They stopped using the back lighting (hammer looking thing in the shadow) that the city required and are lighting it from the front as originally designed to make shadows on the building at night. Yeaaah!

I just found this photo that Marshall Astor took of the partly eaten face cakes that I made for the Estate of Mind show at Future Studio Gallery. I baked cakes and brownies in a ceramic baking pan/wall hanging that I made some years ago. They always elicit good (or weird) conversation wherever I take them. Some that I baked for that night could have tasted better but they were a lot of fun! The baking pan is the black face on the right.

We are so sad. We had Jakey euthanized. It was as good as it could have been. He ws our most lovey-dovey snuggle-bunny doggie! He was an abused baby who we rescued and gave a loving, indulgent, pampered, fun, happy home but he gave us so much more. We love and miss him.

I will use this blog to post pictures of my work and news about shows, works & projects in progress etc.
This piece called "Bloom" is from the Braided Shredded Paper series. It is currently in the show Estate of Mind at Future Studio Gallery ending 10/04/06.
Rather than discarding my deceased parent's papers and mail that continues to arrive I am shredding them and braiding the shreds into sculptural forms to make a universal statement of renewal from trash.
